Range Works - Improvements
January to June 2025
The last half of the 2024-25 financial year has been a busy one for the Range Management and Improvement Committee and SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex works.
The SSAA ACT Inc. Range Management and Improvement Committee is supported by the SSAA ACT Inc. Council and each of the SSAA ACT Inc. Disciplines and Clubs. Range management is a joint responsibility between all range users to ensure that health and safety are prioritised.
Through the RMIC, as a central control and facilitation point, all range works are completed with certain standards and priorities in mind.
Completed Capital Works
Major capital works have been completed across the whole SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex.
The following photos show the works that the SSAA ACT Inc. Range Management and Improvement Committee and the Council have approved and completed.
In addition to these, the Electrical Backbone project has been completed. This project delivered:
- Power to the Crater Range, including by adding lights for extended range use;
- Upgrade supply to the following SSAA ACT Inc. Ranges:
- TOB, Air Shed, Barricade, Silhouette, 35m, Turning Target, Moving Target and Falling Plate
- Increased capacity to the Old Club House for future re-development;
- Connected all ranges to internet;
- Power to RMIC Facilities Shed;
- Decommissioning and removal of overhead powerlines.
Commenced Capital Works
Planning is underway for the following projects:
- Retaining wall in front of the SSAA ACT Inc. 35m range;
- Sleeper wall on the SSAA ACT Inc. Barricade Range;
- Redevelopment of the SSAA ACT Inc. Old Club House into a camp kitchen and outdoor area;
- Concrete and tree protection works to the 35m range;
- New kitchen in the SSAA ACT Inc. Main Club House;
- Additional mobility access improvements.
Health and Safety Work and Improvements
In addition to the ongoing maintenance and restocking of the SSAA ACT Inc. First Aid kits and defibrillators across the whole SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex, major works to health and safety have been undertaken in this period, including:
- Upgrading of Range Safety lights to the SSAA ACT Inc. Crater Range facilitated by the completion of the Electrical Backbone project;
- Addition of spotlights to the SSAA ACT Inc. Crater and JMK (Main) Ranges;
- Addition of handrails to the SSAA ACT Inc. Crater Range;
- Upgrade of the bridge between the SSAA ACT Inc. Silhouette and Barricade ranges, including handrails and kick panels;
- Pruning of overhanging branch at the SSAA ACT Inc. Shotgun Ranges;
- Major security camera upgrades across the SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex.
Maintenance Works
Completed during this period have been numerous regular maintenance tasks, including:
- Weed spraying on the SSAA ACT Inc. JMK (Main) Range;
- Mowing of the SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex;
- Regular internal road grading completed;
- Pumping of the dams and EPA required water testing completed;
- Planning work for replacing doors on the SSAA ACT Inc. Main Club are underway, with the installation of illuminated exit signage to be included;
- Starlink installation completed across the SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex
- Maintenance and repair works to the solar panels installed on the SSAA ACT Inc. Main Club House;
- Discussions with ACT Parks about weed spraying on the road side verges;
- Gutter cleaning across all buildings on the SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex;
- Replacement of broken toilet in the SSAA ACT Inc. Main Club House male bathroom;
- Plumbing and drainage works completed on the SSAA ACT Inc. TOB Range;
- Shelving and racking installed in various storage areas;
- Moving storage containers and supporting storage for SSAA ACT Inc. Disciplines and Clubs and Range Users.
Appreciation
The above works are either undertaken by SSAA ACT Inc. members or are facilitated by these members. They all volunteer their time to support the whole of the SSAA ACT Inc. Range Complex and all of the SSAA ACT Inc. membership and visitors to the Complex.
Without these dedicated members these works would not be completed.
They are committed to ensuring that SSAA ACT Inc. Range users have safe facilities and are able to compete the SSAA disciplines that they choose.
